                                                                 French Cuisine

Cuisine is a big part of any countries culture, but it is especially huge in France. We all know the typical French stereotypes regarding food, like croissants, french toast, and french fries, but cuisine in France is actually a lot deeper than this. The French have some of the best culinary minds around, and some of the best culinary arts schools. Throughout the following Wiki I will be discussing some interesting aspects of French cuisine.

French food started using less spices in the 17th century but they still use cheese and wine, a major part in French meals, every region in France has its own meal learn more here.

The sixties brought about many changes to French cuisine. A rush of immigrants from Portugese attributed to the new food dishes, which eventually led to, "Nouvelle Cuisine". These dishes are characterized by lighter more delicate foods, and have an increased emphasis on presentation.

Here you can see an example of Nouvelle Cuisine. There are very small portions, but what the plate lacks in size, is made up by the presentation!

Another French favorite in regards to cuisine is butter. The French put butter on anything and everything. Wine is also a specialty in France, along with cheese. An interesting fact about French food is that adults rarely ever drink milk, they think of it as a child's drink.

Some top notch French Culinary Arts schools are Le Cordon Bleu, the French Culinary Institute, and the Gastronomicom French Culinary School.

I hope you enjoyed learning about French Cuisine!! :)

The French have an incredible variety of foods in their dishes. These are some of the basic ingredients.

-Olive Oil -Vinegar; Red Wine Vinegar is preferred -Dijon Hot Mustard -Nutmeg -Onions -Garlic -Flour; White flour preferred however if using wheat flour don't use whole wheat. -Sugar Fresh Herb basics -Basil -Sage -Parsley; Most common -Sorrel -Coriander; not basic but well liked as an ingredient. Their dishes rely on the fresh ingredients and preparation. The food is great is because of the fresh ingredients and because they constantly change what they do with their food. The four most common things to have with your meals are water and bread, or wine and cheese. However, the style of wine needs to correspond with the style of food.  The French also have seating arrangements.  -Host and hostess can't sit beside each other only across.

-Gentlemen and Ladies must alternate as much as possible.

-Female guest of honor must sit to the right of the host. -Male guest of honor must sit to the right of the hostess. -Married couples cannot sit beside or across from their spouses.(ED4)

French don't drink milk as a common beverage unless you are a young child.
